Part 1 - Example answer

It’s my birthday soon. My birthday is on the 15th of July, but I’m having my birthday party this weekend. The party starts at 6:00 and finishes at 11:00. I have lots of beer and wine, but I need to buy some chips, three pizzas, some chocolate and a lot of ice. Four people are coming. Tom, Alice, Kenji and Matt. Tom wears glasses. Alice has long curly black hair. Kenji has short black hair, and Matt is short. I can’t wait!


Part 2 - Example interview: their kitchen / fridge

1. Is your kitchen big or small?
2. How many plates do you have in your cupboard?
3. Do you have any cheese in your fridge?
4. How much milk do you have?
5. Do you have a microwave?
6. What’s in your freezer?
7. Would you like a new kitchen?


Part 3 - Example speech: directions

To get to the station you need to go out of this building. Go down the stairs to the first floor, and go out of the main exit. Then go down Apple street for about ten minutes and turn right at the post office. After that go straight about 300 meters and turn left. Go past the school, go past the book store and go past KFC. After you pass KFC, turn left onto Banana street. Go straight for about five minutes and the station should be in front of you.


Part 4 - Example summary

Her name is Kate. She is a college student. She’s studying science at Tokyo University. She has a small family. It’s just Kate, her sister and her dad. Her sister is five. She is really cute. She has big blue eyes, and long blond hair. Her dad is tall, he has straight black hair and a short goatee. Kate and her sister both like music. Kate plays the piano, and her sister plays the trumpet. Kate always practices the piano in her room after dinner. Her room is really cool. She has a big music collection. She has lots of MP3s, She has some CDs, She has a few tapes, but she doesn’t have any records. At the moment, her sister is in the living room watching TV, but Kate is studying because she has a big test on the 27th.

Part 5 - Example role-play

A) Excuse me.
B) Hello. How can I help you?
A) I’m looking for a new jacket.
B) OK. What kind of jacket are you looking for?
A) Leather, please.
B) Right this way. We have lots of nice leather jackets. Which one do you like?
A) I like that one.
B) Here you are.
A) How much is it?
B) It is $300.
A) How much is that one over there?
B) It’s $200.
A) Can I try it on?
B) Sure. How is it?
A) It’s great. I’ll take it.
